Born and raised in Hong Kong, Priscilla Tong showed great interest in music from a very young age, and sang in church and community children choirs. Under the encouragement of her music-loving father, she completed Grade 8 piano at the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in Hong Kong.
When Priscilla came to Canada to pursue her post-secondary education, she stopped taking piano lessons. However, she could never stop singing! While still in school, Priscilla joined the choir at the University of Waterloo, and sang and played piano at the local church choir. During that time, Priscilla performed masterpieces such as Handel・s Messiah, Fauré・s Requiem, and Britten・s The Company of Heaven.
After graduating from university, Priscilla continued to pursue a career as a software engineer in the Greater Toronto Area, but nothing could quench her desire to sing. She sang in the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, and it was then that she realized that her singing technique was not good enough. Through a friend・s referral, Priscilla came to know world-renowned soprano Ms. Mary Liu and tenor Mr. Colin Yip; and from that moment on, Priscilla knew that deep in her heart, she aimed for something higher. She then started to pursue her dream to become a professional singer under the instruction of Ms. Liu and Mr. Yip.
During the years of studies at the Toronto School of Music Canada, Priscilla gained exposure to works from a variety of styles and composers. Among them, she had opportunities to perform excerpts from Mozart・s Le Nozze di Figaro, Rossini・s Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Verdi・s La Traviata, Puccini・s La Bohème and Madama Butterfly, Bizet・s Carmen, Gounod・s Faust, and Humperdink・s Hänsel und Gretel. |
